A Lot to Learn…

This morning, more lives of innocent, intelligent beings were brutally taken from the worlds’ oceans… A small, tight-knit family of 5 Risso’s dolphins were dragged by their tails, thrashing for freedom, and stabbed along their spines. They were then left to die a slow and horrible death.

The world has begun to take notice once again; on the Taiji Dolphin Slaughter… a shimmering spotlight is shining back on this sleepy little fishing village of Japan. This spotlight illuminates the lies in which the government of Japan has been projecting to the public, lies about the means and times of the death of these animals. Video footage captured this week strongly contests all claims put forth by pro-dolphin hunting advocates, who claim that the dolphins’ deaths come almost instantly. The videos show exactly what the fishermen try so desperately to cover up each day. Have a look here at a recent article in Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald on the slaughter.

The small family of Risso’s dolphins were tirelessly chased by twelve banger boats all morning… Yesterday, this family was free to surf the waves of the ocean, socialise with each other and interact with other creatures of the deep. They would hunt and catch their own fish for food, and intricately communicate messages between themselves that humans cannot understand… Their one and only downfall, is that their migratory path, used for thousands of years by these creatures, took them a little too close to the town of Taiji, Japan.

One of the hardest thoughts to battle with here, and I try and refrain from doing so, is thinking about all those dolphins out there… right now… surfing, playing, teaching, learning and communicating with each other- unknowingly on their way down the coast of Japan; toward imminent death. Some of these dolphins could be older than many of you reading this right now, they could be mothers, fathers or even grandparents… or they might even be among the newborn calves, learning everything about the oceans for the first time, sticking close with their loving mothers… until mankind rips their family ties, as well as their lives, apart.

Some people question the intelligence of dolphins and other cetaceans. Many people of different cultures, such as a percentage of Japanese people, classify dolphins as fish… nothing more than your regular household goldfish. Of course, in Western countries, as well a large amount of others from all over the world, most recognise dolphins for their intellectual significance. This comes from studies from leading experts in neuroanatomy the world over… there is little doubt in most scientists’ minds that a dolphins intelligence parallels that of a humans’.

In my opinion, we are far outstripped by them. Dolphins can understand humans, through sign language and sound… humans have yet to scrape the surface when it comes to understanding the vocalisations and ‘languages’ of dolphins. The mere concept of a dolphins’ echolocation, with which they are able to see minute details of their surroundings for great distances and are even equipped with the means to see ‘through’ people- like an x-ray scanner, is just incomprehensible to a human being. The fact that dolphins are warm blooded mammals who produce live young, however inhabit some of the most remote places on the face of the underwater world barely skims the surface of their incredible adaptations to their environment. Cetaceans are the masters of their underwater environment, they are perfectly equipped with adaptations which humans cannot even fathom.

And yet, it is because of the fact that humans don’t know enough about these creatures that in some areas of the world, it is considered acceptable- even honourable- to slaughter thousands of them… I’m sure, if humans had developed a way in which to understand these creatures- and dolphins could actually talk and send messages to us, that there would be no way in which slaughtering these animals would be continued in the 21st century… it is only because of human’s naivety and the fact that we don’t understand the complete world of dolphins that it is still allowed to brutally slaughter these beings…

Please, read this article in which scientists delve into the argument of dolphin intelligence…

I really need more videos for my ‘Youth Project’ guys, so if you are someone seeing these videos, reading what happens here, and you want to make a change- and want to help stop the slaughter, please become involved in this project… This is a way of getting everyone to speak up for the dolphins. So please take a look at the details of the project, and send in a video as soon as you can!!

Don’t forget to keep sending in your questions to pathtoprotect@hotmail.com for me to answer in my video blogs!

You can follow my videos here on this blogpage (which I will continue to update every day) as well as my Youtube Channel
Also, don’t forget to add me as a friend on Facebook if you haven’t yet- for regular updates, photos, information and videos from the Cove.

If you want to help: Please help us put pressure upon the Japanese government and embassys worldwide- let them know that you oppose the slaughter by calling and emailing.

Thankyou everyone for your continued support, and positive feedback! We all really appreciate it!

  1. So sad that another bloodline is lost to the fishermen of Taiji. Generations of successful breeding and surviival have been wiped out in one morning. I hope and pray Japan will open it’s eyes and speak up against this barbaric trade. Thanks Nicole, for keeping us all so well informed x

  2. Are you familiar with this quote? Henry Beston could have been speaking about what the killers don’t want to hear:
“We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals. Remote from universal nature, and living by complicated artifice, man in civilization surveys the creature through the glass of his knowledge and sees thereby a feather magnified and the whole image in distortion. We patronize them for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate of having taken form so far below ourselves. And therein we err, and greatly err. For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth.”

  4. C’est même dur de lire jusqu’au bout parfois. Alors j’ose à peine imaginer ce que tu peux ressentir en étant sur place et en assistant à ce massacre chaque jour.Tu es très courageuse, pleins de pensées positives pour toi Nicole.

  5. Thank you for being so fast updating us. I believe all animals are a lot more intelligent than we give them credit for. Stay strong. I hope one day to join you.

  7. Tomorrow is my baby sons birthday…I cannot for the life of me imagine what it would be like to have him ripped from me like it is so easy for others to do to a pod of Dolphins. I realize they are not human but believe they can feel the grief man does to them with no threat from them at all. Their trusting nature is their only downfall. I pray for something to open the eyes and hearts of the fishermen. I ask for this everyday and know there will be a day of change, only wish it would happen NOW!!! Thanks for being there for us all Nicole!! ❤
